Chanukah Shines Bright on the Beach

  • January 2026

The glow of menorahs and joyful song lit the shoreline on the first night of Chanukah as Chabad of Singer Island and the Beaches, led by Rabbi Berel Namdar, hosted its eighth annual Chanukah on the Beach celebration at the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa.

Hundreds of residents, families, and visitors from around the country gathered on the sand as the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean for the communal lighting of the menorah. Rabbi Berel Namdar welcomed attendees and spoke about the timeless message of Chanukah, the triumph of light over darkness, and the courage of the Maccabees.

“Our response to darkness is to rise up and add light,” Namdar said. “We fight darkness with the bright, unbreakable light of the menorah. Even a small flame can illuminate the world.”

Rebbetzin Tzivia Namdar also addressed the crowd, offering words of inspiration. “Despite the darkness, we will continue to shine light,” she said.

Councilman Glen Spiritis praised Chabad’s role in strengthening the community. “I’m a member of Chabad of Singer Island and encourage everyone to participate,” Spiritis said. “We’re grateful for what you do to bring us all together.”

The celebration included lively music provided by a DJ, dancing, and a festive dinner featuring traditional Chanukah foods. More than 1,000 brisket-topped latkes were served, along with other holiday favorites. Dozens of menorahs were distributed so families could bring the spirit of Chanukah into their homes.

For some attendees, celebrating Chanukah on the beach was a first-time experience. “We just moved from out of state, and celebrating Chanukah on the beach is something we’ll never forget,” said one participant. “It felt spiritual, joyful, and welcoming.”

Rabbi Namdar expressed appreciation for the Riviera Beach Police Department for providing extensive security throughout the evening, including officers on foot, patrol vehicles, ATVs, boats, and other safety measures.
