Beth Tikvah to Host That’s the Spirit

  • January 2026

Temple Beth Tikvah in Greenacres has created That’s the Spirit, an invigorating program of courses, holiday experiences, and cinema entertainment. The mission is to provide an environment where each attendee connects with Jewish opportunities that lead to a fulfilling secular and spiritual life. All events are open to the public.

It’s All about Me is a unique approach of relating the weekly parsha to everyday modern challenges and unseen opportunities. Educator Andy Greenberg describes the course as the exploration of the totally revised 2026 Torah that uses every word of the original text, interpreted by the class as they experience every story and thought that represents modern issues in the secular world. Each interactive discussion will reveal text messages for today’s complex life. Classes will be held Tuesdays at 1 p.m., January 13, 20, 27, and February 3.

The Mussar tradition is a guide for spiritual development that fosters awareness, wisdom, and personal transformation. Instructor Helen Shub will guide participants on a journey of self-improvement and becoming a more ethical person. The journey will begin on Tuesday, March 10, and continue March 17, 24, and 31.

Rabbi Emeritus Howard Shub will discuss Jewish gangsters at a Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, February 24, at 12 p.m. Enjoy a delicious lunch as Rabbi Shub tells tales of crimes and misdemeanors by Jewish gangsters.

A community Havdalah service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 6 p.m., including a light dairy supper and entertainment.

A Winter Film Festival will be held Mondays at 1 p.m.: January 12, The Hebrew Hammer; January 26, A Serious Man; February 9, One Life; February 23, The Fabelmans.

Read and Discuss is a lively analysis of books with a Jewish theme facilitated by Helen Shub. This group meets on Zoom Sundays at 10:30 a.m.; January 18, The Trick by Emmanuel Bergman; March 1, The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin.

Join a joyous Purim celebration Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m., as the Miami Klezmer Band rocks the house. Come in costume and bring your graggers to the Megillah reading on Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m.

Commemorate our flight to freedom on Thursday, April 2, at a Second Seder; read the Haggadah and once again realize that we too could have been slaves in Egypt. A Passover Food Drive to help those in need celebrate Passover will run from March 2 through March 30. Please bring non-perishable kosher-for-Passover items to the Temple.
